Miért nem érzi mindenki egyformán a ginseng hatását?

Why does not everyone feel the effects of ginseng in the same way?

Everyone perceives the world, and the impact of anything else, in different ways, subjectively. But how is it possible for someone to report on the effects of ginseng as almost just brushing their perceptual threshold, while others almost get wings? This is what we are going to investigate.

What is saponin?

Saponins enhance the solubility of other active ingredients in water and spirits, but also their absorption. Therefore, saponin-containing medicines increase the rate at which calcium ions that enter the body through the diet enter the bloodstream and enhance (sometimes unwanted) the effects of oral medicines (e.g. Digitalis - the active ingredient in foxglove). (for Source: Wikipedia)

So saponin is the compound in ginseng that helps the absorption of its active ingredient, ginsenoside. The ginsenosides in ginseng are not absorbed directly by the human body, but have to be converted into specific ginsenosides such as Rg3, Rh1, K-compounds. The ability to break down (digest) ginsenosides varies from person to person, so in many cases this conversion does not occur and the effects of ginseng are hardly felt.

What is a ginsenoside?

The main active constituents of the herb Panax ginseng are the ginsenosides, which have been shown to have various therapeutic effects. To date, nearly 200 types of ginsenosides have been reported by researchers. One of these is Rg3, which can be considered a key ginsenoside as it can solve a number of problems when consumed in sufficient quantities. These include fatigue ( research here and here), cardiovascular problems (more info here), blood pressure problems (more info here), potency problems (research here), blood sugar problems (research here), memory problems (research here), etc.

Confusing saponin and ginsenoside: some people list the active ingredient content of their product as "80 mg/g ginsenoside (saponin) content". This is a big number, but ginsenoside and saponin are not the same. And confusing the two values could mislead consumers.

Korean ginseng generations

As technology has advanced, the way in which ginseng is used as a medicinal plant has also changed. From dried ginseng, which was popular half a century ago, to high-tech enzyme ginseng.

From dried ginseng (0) to black ginseng (9):

Ginseng steaming
  1. In South Korea, ginseng grown for 6 years is harvested and then dried. Thedried 6-year-old ginseng root (1st generation ginseng in terms of technological development) does not yet contain Rg3 ginsenoside.
  2. After steaming once, it turns red (2nd generation) and already contains Rg3 ginsenoside, which is how red ginseng is made.
  3. After steaming nine times, the black ginseng root (3rd generation) will have almost double the amount of the active ingredient Rg3 ginsenoside than red ginseng.
  4. In order to allow the ginsenoside active ingredient to be even better absorbed by the human body, the fermentation process is used (4th generation). fermented ginseng contains 2-8 times more Rg3 than the common red ginseng root (per gram).
  5. Enzymatic ginseng is the 5th generation ginseng. Enzyme technology converts ginsenosides into specific ginsenosides, multiplying Rg3 and K-compound, thus achieving even better results even faster (research from 2015-2020 shows that K-compound is liver protective, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-cancer, anti-cancer, anti-cancer, neuroprotective, anti-ageing/skin protective).
