Should you give your child vitamins? And if so, what kind?

Taking vitamins is a divisive topic, especially whether children need them and, if so, which ones to take. Basically, there are two types of parents: those who give vitamins because they fear illness and want to boost their child's immune system, and those who don't because they think the immune system is working on its own and/or are distrustful of the ingredients in vitamins. Who is right?

The immune system works, but it doesn't hurt to support it

Vitamin proponents want to increase the chances of preventing disease by giving the immune system a little extra support. Opinions differ on whether this is necessary, but it certainly won't do any harm, and many doctors recommend it. What is definitely in its favour is that there are vitamins that are almost 'compulsory' at certain ages.

Think, for example, of vitamin D for children, which is specifically prescribed in infancy to ensure proper development throughout life. The same for breastfed babies, vitamin K, which is recommended until breastfeeding. These recommendations underline that vitamin K is not 'just' a vitamin, but can play an important role.

Why would someone not want to give a vitamin?

There are two strong arguments against it. The first is that the immune system does not need to be constantly supported, it knows what it is doing, and that external intervention only weakens it because it does not work 'on its own'. Well, this is rather shaky: the immune system does not become weaker by being supported, it doesn't work by vitamins working for it. The vitamin gets incorporated into the system and the system itself becomes stronger. Otherwise, yes, in a healthy person, in a child, it can do its job on its own, but why not improve it if we have the opportunity?

The other counter-argument is that vitamins contain a bunch of artificial substances that our body doesn't need. Who knows what we are giving our children, it is better not to give them anything, then we are certainly not doing any harm.

This latter approach is more conscious, and there is truth in it. After all, the popular, typically cheap children's vitamins on the market are full of additives that are not actually needed, but are only there to make them more colourful, smellier, more palatable, and the cost of production is extremely cheap thanks to these substances. Obviously to make children want to take them, because they are unlikely to swallow a pill with water because they 'need to'.

What is wrong with additives?

Did you know that for most medicines and food supplements, possible allergies and hypersensitivities are not caused by the active ingredient itself, but by the "frills"? So it is exactly these additives that are next to the active ingredient. Unfortunately, this is also true for children's vitamins, most of the time there is an overreaction to the colouring and other accompanying substances.

Also, there are some things that are not really good for children's bodies. Most of these children's vitamins, for example, contain too much sugar, which can make the child feel unduly excited and is not good for his teeth. Let's look a little more closely at what children don't need but is still in cheap children's vitamins: artificial colours, xanthan gum, synthetic vitamins, cyclodextrin, etc.

So it's understandable that parents who are well-informed on this subject would prefer not to give their child vitamins. But there is a middle way: vitamins containing only natural substances, such as Vita Ginseng Kids. However, for many, the counter-argument may be that these are extremely expensive to produce, so they are higher priced.

As you can see, it's all natural ingredients, nothing you wouldn't want to give your child. The taste, and the kid-friendly design, is provided by the variety of fruits. You can get it in powder form and mix it into whatever your child likes.

The effectiveness of the product is provided by red ginseng and vitamin D. We have already mentioned that vitamin D is so important for children that it is specifically prescribed by doctors for babies, but it should be taken later. Ginseng is not prescribed, but it has many benefits and is worth giving:

  • It supports the immune system
  • Improves mental and physical performance, helps concentration and improves stamina
  • Supports blood circulation and thus brain function

It doesn't matter what kind of ginseng it is

Now, you may say that there are a lot of ginseng products on the market, and this is true, but there are two problems: one is that not all of them are suitable for children, and the other is that the active ingredient content of most of them is so low that you will not see spectacular results from consuming them because they are typically cheap products costing between 2 and 4 thousand forints and the active ingredient content is negligible.

  • The effectiveness of ginseng lies in the fact that the plant needs to be allowed to grow and develop for a long time. The manufacturer uses 6-year-old ginseng for all the products available from us, because that is when the plant is of the best quality and the active ingredient content is at its best. The 6 year old Korean fermented red ginseng extract(133mg/day) also used in the children's vitamin

The key word is "active". You can buy a ginseng capsule that has 200 grams of ginseng in it, but the active ingredient content may still be minimal - and they won't put that on the box.

A really good quality vitamin containing 6-year-old ginseng can make a spectacular difference to your daily life on its own, but with the addition of vitamin D, 7 types of berry extracts and 20 types of vegetable extracts, ginseng is a really powerful children's vitamin. You're putting a lot of fruit and vegetables into your child's body without them even noticing.

Why do kids need vitamin D so much?

Vitamin D for kids is known to be important for proper bone development. This is true - for example, the incidence of angioedema (a serious bone development disorder) has fallen to almost zero since it became common practice to give babies vitamin D regularly. But this is just one of the reasons why vitamin D for children is essential.

As well as ensuring proper bone development, this vitamin plays a very important role in the proper functioning of the immune system, supporting cell division and muscle function. New research has also concluded that most chronic diseases (diabetes, obesity, cancer, cardiovascular problems) that are almost common in affluent societies may be linked to vitamin D deficiency.

It should be remembered that young children develop at a rate, especially in the first few years of life, that will not be seen again in their entire lives. By giving vitamin D to children, we can support this development so that the bones, teeth and the development of the whole body can better follow this pace. Vitamin D is also necessary for the development of the brain and nervous system: a lack of vitamin D can cause mental disorders, behavioural problems and learning difficulties.

The effects of ginseng on children

We personally test every product we sell to give you first-hand information about its effectiveness. Our own children were the first to try Vita Ginseng Kids, and the results were visible after just two weeks.

Our child, who had previously been difficult to wake up and had spent mornings in a semi-sleeping state, started waking up on his own before waking, and was active in the morning, bouncing and rolling around. Anyone who knows what it's like to go through the process of getting ready on a sleepy morning and get to nursery/school/work on time is probably thinking that it's worth taking this vitamin just for that. And you're right, but fortunately the effect doesn't stop there.

It also makes studying easier, as ginseng stimulates brain function and helps concentration, so you can finish your homework faster and get on with your daily chores more easily - leaving more time for everything else. As a bonus, there's also the very significant immune-boosting effect that both ginseng and vitamin D provide, so you don't have to miss so much when you're ill.

Ginseng and vitamin D are useful for children separately, but together they are unbeatable. Plus, it's all in an all-natural, artificial-free vitamin formula - worth a try!
